Damrei Krab Temple (ប្រាសាទដំរីក្រាប)

Damrei Krab Temple, also called Krabei Krab Temple (ប្រាសាទក្របីក្រាប), is a small group of three brick temples on Kulen Mountain. They are built in a row from north to south, all facing east. The middle tower is still in good condition because it has been restored, while the two side towers are partly ruined. The temples were once surrounded by an outer wall with an entrance gate on the east side.

Historians believe the temple was built in the 8th-9th century, during the early Angkor period, because of its style. No inscription has been found to provide further information.

The central tower is very special. It still keeps its three false upper levels, something very rare for brick temples of this age. The tower looks tall and narrow, which is a design style unique to Kulen Mountain. Its doorway has beautifully carved sandstone pillars, and in the past, it also had a decorated lintel (stone beam) and pediment (triangle above the doorway).

Old photos show that the main pediment once had a carving of Brahma, the four-faced Hindu god, with two kneeling worshippers. The style of these carvings connects earlier temple traditions and may have influenced later designs seen in Angkor temples.

Sras Damrei (Kulen Mountain)- ស្រះដំរី នៅលើភ្នំគូលែន

Sras Damei (meaning Elephant Pond on the top of Kulen Mountain) is found on the top of Kulen Mountain, about 5.5 Km southwest of Anlong Thom village. It is a group of big stone animal carvings made from natural sandstone. The carvings include an elephant, two lions, and another figure that some people think looks like a frog. In front of them is a carving of a bull, Nandin, with two small stone basins nearby, close to the edge of the cliff. These carvings are believed to have been made in the 8th or 9th century.

Baksei Chamkrong Temple - ប្រាសាទបក្សីចាំក្រុង

Baksei Chamkrong Temple is a small 10th-century temple near the South Gate of Angkor Thom, close to Phnom Bakheng. It was built as a Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva. The name means “the bird that shelters under its wings.”
The temple was started by King Harshavarman I and finished in 948 AD by King Rajendravarman II, who placed a golden statue of Shiva inside.
It is a stepped pyramid with four levels made of laterite, rising 13 meters high. Very steep staircases lead to the top platform where a single brick tower (prasat) stands. The main door faces east, while the other sides have false doors.
Some carvings remain, including Indra on his three-headed elephant and Genesha above the eastern doorway. An old inscription tells about the temple’s history and the king’s achievements.
Later, a reclining Buddha statue was added inside the tower.
The temple is located about 9Km north of Siem Reap, near Angkor Thom’s South Gate.

Bei Temple or Prasat Bei (meaning Three Temples)- ប្រាសាទបី

The Bei Temple or Prasat Bei (meaning Three Temples) is a small temple made of three brick towers built side by side from north to south. All of them face east and stand on a platform made of laterite stone. The middle tower once held a linga, a sacred symbol of the Hindu god Shiva. The two side towers are smaller, rising only as high as their doorways. The carvings are found only on the central and southern towers, showing Indra, the god of rain and thunder, riding his three-headed elephant, Airavata.

Phimeanakas Temple (ប្រាសាទភិមានអាកាស)

Phimeanakas temple, also called the “Celestial Palace,” is a Hindu temple inside the Royal Palace area of Angkor Thom, Cambodia. It was built in the late 10th to early 11th century as a three-level pyramid made of laterite, once crowned with a tall tower.

The kings used the temple as a private royal shrine. According to legend, the king had to spend each night in the tower with a Naga princess, believed to be the spirit of the land, to keep the kingdom safe and prosperous.

Construction began under King Rajendravarman and was completed by King Suryavarman I. Like many temples in Angkor, it was abandoned in the 15th century and later became covered by jungle before being rediscovered.
